Step 29 – Painting step by step

I've now painted the silver dots over the white ones I painted in step 28. After 29 steps the painting is finally finished. I just need to remove the masking tape around the edges (I prefer nice white clean edges on the canvas) and sign and date it. Hope you enjoyed the series and that it helps to explain how I work.

I'm going to put silver dots in the brown circle to the right but first I have painted them white so that when I paint them silver they will shine.

Well now I’ve removed the masking tape on the curve and you can see what a good job its has done. The two contrasting textures meeting in this way looks good. And finally I am able to reveal the small circle I first masked over at stage 8. Its been protected all this time and as a consequence I have nice white canvas to paint the circle onto.

.. I paint them silver. Because of the white base the silver dots dry nice and shiny. This is the last stage of painting the background.

Now I have painted the dots but its not as simple as that because I actually want the dots to be silver but if I just paint them silver on the dark background they won't "shine" so first I paint them white to act as a base and then..

Here I've masked off the curved side of the brown area. This is because the dots that I am going to paint on the brown are going to give the effect of going behind the splash work and so as a consequence I need to protect the splash work. I haven't protected the right edge of the brown area as the dots will not do the same thing on this side.
